How to Build an Unshakeable Confidence

By Scarlett Meade.

All confidence begins with WHY. Find out why you are doing something and watch your confidence soar. What is your belief level and why are you doing what you are doing? This is one of the most important points when we are talking about self-confidence. You have to know why you are doing what you are doing. You can still have confidence knowing what you do; but people don’t buy into what you do, they buy into why you do it. Simon Sinek expands on this concept in his YouTube video “Start with why TEDx Talk”. Find the video here:

Here are some tips on how to make your confidence as an entrepreneur unshakeable:

  • Practice your pitch. When you talk with an investor or people about your company you want to have your pitch internalized to the point where if someone shook you from your sleep at 2:00 A.M.  you could roll your pitch off your tongue without hesitation. Remember to start by writing down your belief statement. Then continue with your pitch. Yes, write out the entire pitch.

Practice it at least 100 times in front of the mirror. Record yourself presenting your pitch. Practice in front of friends and family. That is exactly how you build bulletproof confidence. When you no longer worry about the words coming out of your mouth. Because now you can focus on the investor’s body language and adjust accordingly. Your self-confidence will skyrocket once you take your belief level to the top and internalize your pitch. You do this through practice and repetition.

  • Master your craft. Becoming an expert in your field is extremely important. On average it takes 7 to 10 years to become an expert, that’s why you better start now. If you want to compete with the best you have to become an expert in at least one aspect of your business. You certainly don’t have to be an expert to start making money, but to truly excel, you must master your craft.

Read all you can about related topics. Watch videos, listen to podcasts, and constantly fill your mind with information that is helping you move forward. Every thought leader, expert, entrepreneur, successful human being, etc. has stood on the shoulders of giants to achieve success. Study your competition and don’t be afraid to use concepts that have worked for their business. Sam Walton built Wal-Mart entirely on this method, as he explains in his biography. Take ideas that you like from other people who are doing it and implement those ideas into your business. It is very rare that anyone built their entire business on original ideas.

  • Get mentors. On your journey to becoming an expert don’t forget about mentors. These are people who have been where you are trying to go. Find mentors and utilize their knowledge and experiences to learn from their mistakes. Warren Buffet says it’s great to learn from your own mistakes, but learning from someone else’s mistakes is a hell of a lot better. Learning from people who have been where you are trying to go can shave years off the learning curve. Ultimately helping you achieve your desired results much faster. Learn from those who have traveled down your desired path.

Looking for self-confidence is no easy journey. It takes courage, mental toughness, and patience. These is no formula to deliver self confidence; however, as entrepreneurs, we have experienced a boost in self-confidence using the aforementioned strategies. This is a journey that will involve your own experiments as well. People are different. Everything doesn’t work for everyone, but if you start with any one of the above strategies, you will be on the right path.

Confidence is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. Repetition will lead you to greatness.
